At least 7 years. that's from first hand experience. I have read figures into teens, but no idea.

 

I've watched some videos of Fronts that were 7-8 years old.

 

Fish can get a lot older than that. A lot depends on the conditions in which they are kept. Just to give an example, the ghe idea that a fish grows to the size of the tank stems partly from the fact that you never see a 10" Front or other big fish in a 12" tank, but that's not because the fish will stay small, it's because it will die due to stress and stress related illnesses long before it reaches that size.

 

I was going to say something about the average life span being quite short, for reasons like that, fmueller, but thought it might be construed as flippant! Especially when so many fish end up in tanks totally unsuited for long term health.

 

I have read they live upwards of 20 years. Is this wrong? We just set up our tank about a month ago and were planning on growing old with them!
