I had a mature male maculipinnis that was good with the fry. I just kept them together.

Is the tank only the fry and the parent's. If other species of Cichlids then remove fry.
The fry last around 3 day's on their yolk.

Usually if you have good parents the main reduction in fry will come from other Cichlids and fish in tank.

Hard to catch fry though when they are very small. Remove other Cichlids in tank or other problematic fish.

This is their first brood and have been exemplary parents. They spawned while in quarantine. So there's no other fish in the tank. I had them for 3 weeks before spawning.

 

I have wished to keep the bimaculate. I have heard different things about their Temperament.
One good Fish store did not like to bring the almost Adult's in. They would have to be separated out. The bimaculate compressed shape may be useful in a community setting. So extreme, over torpedoeo shaped or slightly flatten body shape. That conspieces ideas. Opps do not know how to spell it.

I think you can have that with most CA cichlids. "psycho's " in the group you have.
Best to buy more then you need, then sort them out.

I am enjoying my maculipinnis fry. I think I am close to 40 good quality fry.
In my mind I do consider about trying not to interbreed. Confusing for me. Mine sure look good.
Considering if i should purchase some macculipinnis.

I have always wished to keep multispinosa.
So, I figure I will put my largest 3 to 4 mm aggressive fry in together Spot Cheek and. Rainbows.

Be overly observant. With my CA Cichlids Spot Cheeks after creating fry the female can be driven off.
My female seemed to be so scared/confused why the Larger male would drive her off. Top CA Cichlids large can kill the female. So sad to see a fish pine away. Not eating. Just dies from stress.


Cichlids remember. They do not like you stealing their fry. Do this enough and they will always be wary.
Not sure i will achieve that to have a hand feed CA.
Ha ha that's why you keep CA. They are hard to figure out.


So Sad I lost my breeding pair.

I kept the Male for 8 years.
Look at what a Psycho Male did to his Dorsal Fin. That does not grow back.

 

I have found them very passive with other species; you can keep several males with a female though she will bond with a single male; however she is less tolerant of other females (I have them in an aquarium that is 48x24; so a larger area). With other dwarf cichild they mostly ignore them.
