Well, I went to the auction yesterday, and it was incredible, the recession hasnt hurt the aquarium hobby in lower Michigan !
It was a 4 hr drive for me, but worth it, I got a few more tanks, plus fish.
There were more fish waiting to be sold at 4 pm when I left then at the beginning of the sale back in Oct. There are always a few selling out, or estates cleaning out garages etc, but the bulk of the mdse was people upgrading, changing set ups, and a huge amount of juvenile fish, older fish were in the minority.
Because Cichlids I got 3 nice almost breeding size long fin bristlenose plecos, there were a lot of brown and albino pairs and trios there. Many juveniles. Along with a good assortment of corys and a lot of synodonts.
A huge assortment of African Cichlids, and a very good assortment of Central and South American including some gorgeous breeder size Tangerine Discus. Only one Jack Dempsey, a large female, probably 6".
A nice assortment of Severums. Four bags of quarter size Heros , sp Uatumen, four small breeder size Redheads, 5-6 Red-lined, and some juvenile Turquoise, I didnt see any golds or albinos. Many other SA Cichlids, a sprinkling of CAs, and a lot of domestic Angels. Plus 3-4 species of Tilapia. Enough to start several Tilapia farms.
There were a large assortment of plants, huge Java Ferns going for $8-10, the same in Anubias, some Amazon Swords, many others.
The guys I talked to working it said it was the biggest turnout they had seen and several are very long time members.
People were enthusiastically buying when I left at 4. I had to get home and get my fish settled in which I did, some Severums, the Plecos , and some crayfish.
A very nice assortment of Rams and Apistogrammas.
Their next auction will in later part of Oct, should be a lot of young fish from all of the breeders sold yesterday.
