I recently bought a tank at yard sale. Its measurments are 49inches long, 13 inches wide and 24 inches tall. These are inside measurments of the tank. They said it was a sixty but it looks larger then that. So the question I have is what is the formula for figuring out the amount, in gallons the tank is?

You can always do this simple formula with your calculator as well:
L*H*W=volume in cubic inches
Divide the tank volume by 231 (which is the volume of 1 gallon).

49*13*24=15288
15288/231=66.18

And YES!, measuring/calulating with the INSIDE dimensions is the best way to get an accurate vloume---don't forget to only measure height up to your appropriate fill level :thumb:

BTW....is that a custom acrylic?? Vey unusual dimensions...like an extra tall 55.

Thanks for all the help, Putting finishing touches on this tank for my woman with another DIY background. I will be inheriting a 40 gallon for a grow out tank. YEEHAW! :D
Looks like the tank in question is a 65 gallons.
