i currently have 3 socolofi and 2 red zebras in a 55 gallon tank. i know i am understocked and will be adding fish regularly. 1 male and 2 female socolofi and 1 male and 1 female red zebra. they are all being weird and i cant find specific enough info on this site or any other to answer my questions. it seems to be breeding behavior but *** only done all male tanks in the past so im just trying to cover all the bases. i will post some pictures tomorrow.
my male socolofi is about 3.5-4 inches. both females are about 3 inches. one female is CONSTANTLY chased by the male and has become a darker blue. the other female is hardly ever chased and remains a beautiful light blue almost white color. they have been vented both by a friend of mine and by me. they are absolutely 1m2f. the chased female spends a lot of time hiding behind the output of my filter and whenever she comes out he chases her around and she retreats either back by the filter or into the caves. i tried removing him from the tank for a few days but still as soon as he went back in he start chasing her and she lost her color again. she does not fight back, ever. just runs and hides. and he shimmers (vibrates) for her whenever she is in the caves. is he just that insistant on breeding and she is resisting so he chases her? her fins are fine, she seems to be in prefect health. i just feel bad for her. but i dont want to move her into my other tank due to risk of cross breeding with my acei. and i cant keep him in my 10 gallon quarantine forever... aside from trading her for another fish, and suggestions? could this stop happening after a while?
also my zebras are acting weird. the male has only been in the tank for a few days and the female has been bullying him. they are both about 3.5 inches, he is slightly larger. but she chases him. they circle each other, usually slow but with some fast bursts and they lip lock once in a while. and he has shimmered a few times but not much at all. he also does this weird thing where he opens his mouth and puts it against her side but doesnt bite her. he sits like that for a few seconds and then they circle again. it seems like breeding behavior from what *** read but i havent seen anything about placing his mouth against her side. i will try to get a picture of it if i see him doing it again.
any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
