I'm interested in keeping Xenotilapia melanogenys, and am looking for anyone who has experience with them to share what they know. Future tank setup will be a 55g long, dual HOB filters, Tanganyikan biotope. Thanks in advance :thumb:
They need very clean water so, you have to be on it when it comes to water changes. They don't like jumbo cyps dive bombing them all day and, they only spawn a couple of times so don't buy old w.c. If you have more than one male they will be coloured up more often. They are a very cool fish to watch. What size is the 55 long? 48" x 18" ?
I have them with my paracyps.. They were spawning like rats. 1m/3f gave me many many fry. One note, do not mix them with furcifer. They share the same spawning ground. And when both trying to spawn, it is a war and usually melanogenys will get hurted.
