I just picked up a 17 gallon galvanized steel tub. I set it up today n plan to put a couple mbunas in within the next 2 weeks. Before I have any surprises will this work? Has any one tried this before?
There are also a number of people using them, so I think the worry is theory more than true. Zinc is very hard and the purpose is to reduce corrosion of the metal. If it was a substance that leaches out quickly, why would they use it? If you leave fish in it for a year and change no water, there might be a buildup of some type but you really don't plan to do that surely. I'm betting on quite a bit of cleaning out debris and changing water so that any buildup of toxins from the metal is a non-factor.
