I had this female mbenji and she didn't eat since yesterday. But all of a sudden today she was dead. I have noticed some white stringy poo floating around the tank sometimes and some of the others were breathing a bit hard, but they are breeding...so my tank can't be in that bad a shape. I also put in about 5 tablespoons of epsom salt yesterday when I noticed her not eating, could this have killed her? I also did a 90% water change yesterday prior to the salt. And I used Clout about 3 weeks ago when others seemed to be breathing hard.

Thank you for your help,

Dan

Fish will breed at any time, even when they are sick, so that isn't any indication that things are going well.

With heavy breathing and white feces, it sounds as if you have bloat in the tank.

The epsom salt is a good preventative, but won't do much for a tank that is already infected.

You can use either of the two bloat treatments listed below my signature. Make sure you remove any carbon from your filtration that is less than 2 weeks old.

Either fast the fish during treatment or feed medicated antiparasitic food.
