white severums.....

....do they turn gold/yellow? Just brought 4 young 'gold' severums and they are white a full half day after putting them in the tank...? They looked quite white at the lfs but I figured it was because they were in the dealers tank....

Cheers

What size are they? Young severums that are a lower grade won't start to show a golden color until they're older - and even then the older strains of gold severum look a lot more white than gold. The only ones with a truely deep golden hue are the higher grade red spotted gold's that cost a lot more in general.
thanks, about 2.5 inches including tail length, they are snow white and were in a mixed tank so I phoned up the lfs to ask about parentage...they get them from a local breeder so I'm guessing the local breeder has male green and female gold or other way round so gold won't become deep yellow as I presume the deep yellow is a line bred trait - that sound about right? Still like them but may get some deep golds from a different source as I'm aiming for two pairs in my tank anyway...

Line bred trait is from Asian stuff for the red spotted golds. True goldens are a different breed and don't get a deep yellow.

At 2.5" they're going to be white, you should see them color up at around 4-5"...do a Google search under Images for gold severum and you can get an idea of what they'll look like.
ok thanks, will just give them time then
