Hello all,

I currently have two yellow labs holding about two days apart and I wanted to know from the experts here, how long until I can strip them and tumble the eggs,..7-10 days? I do not want them to hold longer than 14 days as I would like to re-introduce them back into the colony. I guess my question is how long before heads and tails form?

So you've already removed them from the main tank? Why do you think it would be a bad idea to try to reintroduce them after 14 days? What other fish are in the tank they will be going back into and what's the size of the tank?

I think I read that you can strip after 18 days with no need of tumbling. I hope someone with experience chimes in though lol.

hi, do you want to tumble for the experience ? or are you simply in a hurry to get the mum's back in the main tank ?
nature can do things better than we ever will so why not let them spit, or if you have to for reasons not listed, strip after 21 days.
i have a 10g tank that my yellow lab just spat into after 25 days holding and she's back in the main tank, eating and as happy as can be!
you could save yourself some hassles.

I think Chromedome has given you good advice.

If these fish had issues holding for 25 days going without food they wouldn't do it in the first place. I would let them hold for about 20 days and then strip them
Good luck

I really don't think you'd have trouble reintoducing them back into the main tank either. Maybe add a couple new caves at the time of putting them back and feed the fish while adding them back. Next time, I'd wait about 18-20 days before removing them from the main tank too.

I removed them from the main tank `cause the alpha male was beating on them pretty bad, torn fins and scales. I`ll just leave them in the 10 gallon below my 125 and I`ll check on them every day. How many fry should first time female labs possibly give me. If I can get about 10 total, I would be satisfied. :D
