Hi folks and a merry xmas fae bonnie dundee. My query is this, in my main tank at the momment i have 3 yellow labs(1m,2f) and 2 afras(lfs said pair?) its a 55gl and in my other tank 65l i have about 30 yellow labs from fry, they are about 1inch long, can i put them in the main tank now or should i wait a while till they get bigger. i would hate to put them in the main tank only to watch them being devoured by the adults. Thanks for any replys

Well, it kind of depends on how large the adults are, but 1.5" is a safe bet.

By the way, no mbuna are "pairing" fish; they all breed by harem, so you may want 2-3 more females for your afra male.

Generally Mbuna ignore the little ones, since they are no threat... but up to a point. If you add new juveniles under an inch, it may trigger a "predatory" instinct and they may go after the juveniles. The newly added juveniles will then panic, which will really fire up the predatory instincts. Mbuna are not really predatory, but if they see prey panic, they can be opportunistic.

That said, Yellow Labs and Afra will probably totally ignore 1" Yellow Labs.
