The local fish club is having a sponge filter workshop at their July meeting. Any ideas for the best designs you've made. I have seen a number of methods using lift tubes, ceramic tile or glass bases, and other materials. My favorite is probably a 4" by 4" y 12" sponge with a hole drilled a little more than halfway down from one end. it can be used with an airlift in a deeper tank, or flat with a power filter.

since noone else responded dude i will,

i use those giant car sponges(to wash cars) i cut a slit in the middle ad a pvc pipe and silicone them together. YOU should silicone something to the bottom to hold it down. i dont, but i should.

after a month it generally just stays down. ++ i put a stocking full of crushed coral over the top of the sponge in most tanks.

you also have to clean these alot more because there slightly more dense, i clean them like once a month
