The aulonocara have an enlarged lateral line system, giving them a sort of "sonar" used by the fish for prey-detection.

Also, the fish we commonly call "haps" were once classified by scientists in a single genus: Haplochromis.

I'm pretty sure that Aulonocara has always been a separate genus.

Haps also get much larger. Peacocks 4-5". Haps 6-14".
