Hi all,

I have a 75gal fish tank and pool filter sand. I would appreciate any recommendations on purchasing items to get the tank set up fully before I spend a ton of money on fish. The last thing I want to do is buy the wrong stuff.

A couple of years ago my tank was set up with African Cichlids. My 13yr old decided to clean the glass top with cleaner and needless to say the cleaner got into the tank and killed all the fish.

Previously the tank was set up with an undergravel filter system. It worked well with the exception of the cichlids moving the gravel around and causing a big mess.

Please any suggestions on what to by next would be greatly appreciated.

I good canister filter would be a start, heater, powerhead for water movement.

Sounds like you are no newcommer to this so you know what is needed but want to know which one to get. Search the "Product Reviews" section HERE and you can learn from others experiance... :thumb:

I would scrap the undergravel filter, one of the reasons being what you pointed out. A good canister filter and power filter would be my suggestions, as well, if you don't have one or the other.

Just cycle the tank like you normally would...

UGF won't work in sand.

The product review section Hoosier posted was very helpful with a lot of information. When I get the equipment bought and the tank set up I will let everyone know what I ended up with.
