I bought this cichlid and he was in a brackish water tank in the aquarium store he was in the tank with scats and figure 8 puffers. The sign said he was a yellow cichlid and I got no other information about him/her so I have no idea what to make of it whether it will attack my puffers or the other way around. I tryed to find info online about it but could not find any pictures of a cichlid that looked like this and was a brackish water cichlid he seems to be happy in the tank eating bloodworms and sometimes live shrimp. Could someone please identify this cichlid for me it would truly help me figure out more info on it and make a better happier tank. He is all yellow with very faint grainy black stripes has black on the tips of his fins and has a very distinctive black spot in the middle of his body which is in the same place on both sides of him Someone please help! The weirdest part about all this is that all the cichlids I found were all freshwater and I finally found a brackish water cichlid and it was multi colored and bright green looked nothing like it! :-? I don't think he is an eletric yellow which it kept leading me to in the search engine.

From that description, he's not an electric yellow. Which aren't brackish, anyway.

What makes you think this fish is actually brackish? If I put a tetra in brackish water and it survives, that doesn't make it brackish...

All cichlids will happily take live food. It's like Americans and donuts/whatever. Not necessarily good for us, but we'll eat it gladly.

I agree, a photo is necessary... How do you know it's a cichlid, too?

Well, since it comes out of a brackish tank, and based on your description, maybe an orange chromide (?). Though these fish are often kept in fresh water , as well.

A green chromide, another cichlid from India, is always kept in brackish water....though I sort of doubt it is that, as it is fairly uncommon in the hobby. Only seen them for sale, a few times in my life.

Thanx Bernie you were right on with the orange chromide that's his picture exactly. I looked up orange chromide and got a completely different looking fish. Before I bought any fish i looked up Brackish water fish and I was looking to get an orange chromide which didn't look like the picture you posted when i seen the picture beside the name.(he didn't have the black spot) It seems i got the fish I had wanted all along and didn't know it! :D Thanx everyone for the replies! Truly helped.
