I picked up these 2 little fish at my LFS in an unmarked "mixed cichlid" tank and I am very curious to ID them. They look like peacocks of some kind but are only about an inch long and already have very impressive colors (the pictures dont do justice, they are bright orange with nice blue on the face)
Thanks

Pictures are a bit blurry and the fish are pretty small to be sure at this point.

It's definitely a peacock, my guess would be Ruben or German Red Peacock.

Can the peacocks really display coloring this small? When I say they are an inch long I really mean they are just pushing an inch and also every fish in the tank had similar coloring, what are the odds of 10 to 12 juvi's all coming up males??

Male peacocks can start showing color at that size for sure.

The chances would be low that a group of juvies would be all males, but who knows. I picked up a group of 12 German Red Peacock juvies, and only got 4 females out of the bunch.

If you bought a group of peacock juvies, depending on space, usually only the larger dominant males would show color.

How are hormones administered? By water or feed treatment?

Wouldn't the cost of hormones outweigh what a peacock is worth?

Not saying you're wrong, just curious.
