cf. guttulatus?

V. zonatus has just as much blue, but has a thick midlateral line down to the tail that I'm not seeing in the pics.

The pic on the CRC for cf. guttatus doesn't have any red.

Besides, you did say you got him from Conkel, who's been pushing cf. guttatus as guttatus for years.

Not saying that's what it is, just what it reminded me of. Deffinately not a Vieja/Paratheraps specialist. It does have the vertical lines that might mean fene. But I've only seen fenes with a mostly blue head, not all the way down the body like that.

Don't think it's a fenestratus, not the right colours IMO. A lot of these species are ****** difficult to tell apart though...he's gorgeous, whatever he is. Lots of gold in him.

Its been a very long time. But I coulda swore when I ordered my fish from Don he said that a pair that I was buying was a breed that is no longer in the wild but only raised by breeders. Of all the fish I ordered I thought this guy was one of them. I could be wrong and I might have heard him wrong. Either way he's the prettiest fish I've ever owned. He has lots of personality too. :thumb:

Hi Kuhlhand,

He is a great looking fish; good to hear he has the personality to match. How big is he? Do you have him with other tank mates?

Thanks,
Matt

Hes around 10-12 inches at least. I had a small knife fish in there with some giant Danios. The Knife fish up and died after being in there for a about a year. He's killed off many Danios but the four left have survived for months now.
