i'm no expert by any means, and this is just my opinion... when trying to figure out a stock list for my tank(90 gallon), i wanted to mostly stay in the medium range which i feel is like 4-6". i would classify anything bigger than a 6-7" fish as a large fish... just my opinion though... it'll be interesting to see the comments and what others think are small, medium, and large.

A 4" adult malawi cichlid would be in the small catergory.

For adult Malawi cichlids I'd roughly chart it like this:

Small - up to 4"
Medium - 4.5" to 7"
Large - any over 7"

Some of the bigger boys will hit the 15" to 17" mark.

4 inch cichlid, when we speak about Malawi Mbuna is a medium size fish, concerning 90% of Non Mbunas this is a small one.

in order to have a complete answer you must give the name of your fish (Bob, Jenny, Alex... )
