I was wondering what cichlids or non-cichlids would go with gymnogeophagus ? The fish choices need to be able to handle cooler water as well as three months of cooling period , so I would prefer fish native to Uruguay . [/img]

First thing that comes to mind are paleatus cories also know as pepper cories. White cloud minnows would probably be ok also.

Apisto. borellii, some Australoheros, etc....

Greenfire tetras and/or Bloodfin tetras are possibilities. Possibly the common bristlenose as well. All three species are found in Uruguay.

If your tank is large enough, I also vote Australoheros. They are colorful, tough and come in a variety of colors.
