From what I have heard Convict cichlids will spawn in a puddle! All that you need for fry is a male, a female, and water.

My Demasoni breed whether you want them to or not. To the point now within 6 months they ran me out of tanks to grow them out.

Most everything I have that's grown enough to breed, has.

I'm not sure any Malawians are difficult to breed, but some are trouble to keep due to aggression, size, etc.

I'd look for a species that is more peaceful and grows to a manageable size. I have lab sp. hongi, a. latifasciata, m. exasperatus, m. estherae, l. caeruleus fry or holding right now. If I can breed them, anyone can!

How big is the tank?

I agree with brinkles. Not many Malawians are in any way picky about when and where they'll breed. They don't even care if they're the same species or even look alike.
