When testing your tap water, let it sit out for 24 hours before testing. There can be gases and such in the water that effect its pH.

1. driftwood or leafs leeching tannins into the water
2. rotting organic matter lowering it
3. the reason stated at the beginning of the post
4. dosing some sort of chemical that is altering the ph.
