I have a 90 gallon tank that I'll be setting up with sand and mbuna within the next few months.
I want to know if i should do 2 seperate loops or one big loop and with how many jets? 6?
I will have 2 penguin powerheads on each corner.
Currently I have one 550. Should I get another 550 or go with 2 larger ones like the 1140?
I really don't want to spend too much money as the hobby has taken its toll

I'll also be getting the prefilter kits and want to know how to set those up to the PVC

Thank you for your time and advice in advance!

I would do 2 separate loops with 5 jets on each. I have a Rio 2500 in my 55 running 5 jets and it is just about right. The rio is fairly compact and easy to hook up so I would suggest getting one for each loop. If you wanted to save money you could do a single loop with 6-7 jets using a single Rio 2500. You would obviously have less jets and less pressure per jet than with 2 loops, but it might work ok. My setup keeps my 55 pretty clean, but it would be better wit 1 or 2 more jets. If you want to stay with the penguin powerheads, go with the larger one. I think that the 550 is only rated at 170gph +/- so it would do 2 jets max. I have one setup on a 2 jet system and it is a bit weak. Look at Big Al's or That Pet Place for the Rio. I only paid $40 for mine and it is rated at 798gph and that is plenty for 5-7 jets.
