I turned off my AC110, which was running alongside an XP3 in a 72 gallon. I got sick of it...the noise, the bubbles it makes, and constantly worrying about my water level to stay clear of the bubbles. With my XP3 running it looks like there is no water in the tank. So, is just an XP3 running in a 72 gallon with 11 Africans (2-3inches) good enough filtration in the meantime until I buy another canister?

all my ac s are silent also...or as quiet as a hob can be. is there an air stone below the intake? is it fully primed? maybe something impeding the flow.
i think you should be fine for a bit with your xp3 and the size of fish you have for awhile. id troubleshoot the 110, great filter to run along side the xp3

What I mean by bubbles is that the water flow, even on the lowest, creates a ton of mini bubbles when hitting the water if my water level is not very high.

Depending on the tank's top trim design/style, that can be more/less of a prob with HOBs in general (and sometimes more significantly with ACs). Shouldn't be an issue short-term, but I wouldn't go too long with a single Xp on your tank. Redundancy is a good thing :thumb:

Several threads here about how folks have added strips of lexan or acrylic type material to extend the outflow lip of ACs deeper into the tank to avoid the noise & bubbles if you don't want to give up on it.

do you have lids on this tank? as i cannot see why you would be loosing so much water in between water changes that this would be an issue.

in my 90 gallon with lids closed might loose 1/2" with water changes every other week.

in my 220 water changes every other to every 3 rd week less then 1"

So i think the problem might not be the actually ac110 as much as how come you are loosing so much water between changes.

just a thought
