Bummer, I'm now down 3 of these fish. Today I woke up to 2 dead ones and about a week ago I woke up to a single dead one.

These are the only fish out of 35 original juvenile fish that have been turning up dead (stock list in signature 7 of each species originally).

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0

Didn't bother checking nitrate or ph since it is only day 3 of this water being in my tank. PH is 8-8.2 out of my tap.

No flashing, pacing or other odd behavior noticed in the tank.

I figure a couple things could be going on.

1) I just moved all my fish into a 100g tank. I had to net all fish 3 times in this process over a 24 hour period. So it could be stress and it could be these fish are susceptible to stress more than my others.

2) It could have been extra males and they got picked off as territories are now being re-established. My largest remaining male is nicely colored now and doing the shake and shimmy for the ladies.

3) It could be they are dumb fish and got in the way of my spawning Cyn. Lion Mara Rocks. I witnessed a spawn attempt yesterday and this morning a female Cyn. Lion did not eat. Think I can get a picture of her? Not a chance right now lol

Oh another thing that may be coincidence or not. The first death occurred within 18 hours of a 50% water change. Moving them to the 100g would be a similar experience (essentially back to back 50% changes over 2 days how I did it).

No sign of disease and they ate well at last night's feeding.

I know it could be 1, 2, 3, or a mix of all of the above so just wondering if anyone has experience keeping this species that has noticed them being a bit more delicate/aggressive at night/etc ( oh and I'm commiserating a bit too... )

Well I think this group isn't going to thrive in my tank.

Of the original 8 that were shipped one was DOA (it was a bonus in the shipment), 3 more are now dead, 1 was so badly beat up during shipment that it is now missing the use of an eye. All of its fins were severely nipped but I nursed it back to health. The problem is this fish is a total runt, hasn't been growing like the others, and usually sits all alone in a lower corner. It does eat but growth has definitely been stunted by injury, aggression, and overall stress.

Of the 3 stronger fish that remain 2 are fighting and locking jaws over territory today.

So at best I have 2 males and 1 female with the other runt completely ignored and no clue about its sex.

I just wish my polits were starting to color up so I could make a final decision about which fish to pull out of the tank to thin the herd for long term success. Why won't fish just cooperate? :-?

Not exactly Boadzulu, but I have Ps. Elongatus sp. Kanchedza youth (about 3 months old) and they seem to have issues every now and again when I do 60%+ water change in their 20 gallon. I started with 17, after something wiped out a few (treated with maracyn-2 in a hospital tank) - down to 9 or 10. I just had to hand scoop out 2 that were looking very distressed - dropped them in the hospital tank.

It was a night/day thing - after a large water change.
I use the same buffer recipe (per 5 gallon) when I do water changes so I don't think it's that.

You know Glaneon I just got back from talking to the guys at my LFS and they say large water changes in our area are a real problem since our water company changed parameters a few months back. So from now on I won't do more than 25% at one time.

I think we can definitely point this to water change stress.

I'll let the dust settle for another couple months with all my stock and then put in an order for replacements. I should have some idea of what my polit mix is in May.

These Elongatus Boadzulu are great looking fish and I'm pretty bummed to be down to essentially 3 viable specimens.
