Welcome to Cichlid-forum. I like the background. What species do you have in there...a couple might be better with larger numbers and in a larger tank.

Thanks y'all. Glad to be part of the forum. Here's my residents without going scientific. One of each species:
red zebra
yellow lab
female kenyi
yellow tail acei
male johanni
bumble bee
orange bloch
cobalt blue zebra
powder blue socolofio
rusty
demasoni
albino Snow White
and two common plecos for the fun of it

When you do one of each you want all males and no look-alikes.

Shoot for 8-10 total in a 55G.

I've heard many different opinions on how many to stock in a 55 gallon. I've heard some reputable people say take the number of gallons and divide it by two. And their are people who say much lower. Everyone is right in reality. Each fish has it's own personality. In my opinion, even though their are characteristics among classifications, that can help you predict behavior there are always deviations from the rule. I can say my tank has seen less aggression when I've went from 4 to 8 and even less when I went from 8 to 12. I wish I could tell the sex when they are one inch long but in most cases it's a **** shoot.
