Cichlid Conservation
The cichlid fishes of Madagascar, Lake Victoria, and other habitats have been on our planet for millenia, but without your help many of them may not be here in the next decade. In fact, more than 200 species are already extinct and dozens more face extinction. It may come as a surprise to many that these fishes are some of Africa's most endangered animals. If the current trend is to be reversed and these fishes preserved, they will need help from field conservationists, zoos, and YOU - the fish hobbyist.
In the summer of 2000, Chuck Rambo, Conservation Chair of the American Cichlid Association (ACA), announced the establishment of the Paul V. Loiselle Conservation Fund for the conservation of rare and endangered cichlid species.
Proposals dealing with the conservation of cichlid species and/or their habitat should be submitted to the ACA Conservation Chair. The Chair will then distribute them to a panel of scientists and conservationists for their recommendations. These recommendations will then be sent to the ACA Board of Trustees for final consideration for funding.

When the principle of this fund generates an annual interest of at least $1000, it will announce the availability of its funds for grants.Paul V. Loiselle is a founding member of the ACA and has held numerous positions in the organization. He is an ichthyologist and currently Curator of Fishes at the prestigious New York Aquarium. Because of Paul's long standing efforts in addressing the conservation of cichlids and other fishes, the ACA was proud to name this fund for someone who has done and continues to do so much, in the name of cichlid conservation.

If you enjoy your cichlids, please give to this fund. Species are disappearing and more will fade away unless we act.The administrators of this site are proud to give to the Paul V. Loiselle Conservation Fund. In order to encourage our members to do the same, we have created a Pay Pal account strictly for donation to this fund. This donation will be submitted in the name of "The Members and Sponsors of Cichlid-Forum.com".
