Hi,

I have been monitoring the temperature in my new tank, i would like the temp to be a constant 79f but it is going up and down due to the heat from the lights, is this a problem, for mbuna?, t'he temp swings between 79f and 81f
Im not sure if this is a problem for the fish,... I want an active tank, so any advice on optimal temperatures, and if the variation is a problem, would be greatly appreciated.

AT the moment i only have yellow labs in the tank, but c.afras will be added at the weekend.

thanks

Darren

variation isnt a problem that is normal due to heaters thermostat kicking in as temp drops.. the 3 degree diff should not affect them at all, within 5 will be fine.. but if its a large tank? then a 2nd heater or a larger one may help with a constant temp.. Optimal temp is a opinion, anywhere around 80 or just above is fine.. higher for more activity... i try for 77.7 all is fine..

Variation within a couple of degrees is fine. It takes a very large body of water to resist small changes in temp.
