I might be interested in buying some Synodontis Petricola, but I was wondering if the spines they apparently have on their dorsal fin would cause major problems when I net them out or if they get spooked. If so, are there any solutions? Would a group of 2-3 be enough to make them come out in the daytime?

I have pictus and I just net them carefully, haven't had a problem. If your worried catch them in a little plastic container just cut some small holes through it like a basket so it's easier to move through the water

I've never had a real problem with nets and spines, but I would not go under 3 individuals.

I've never attempted to catch my syno eupterus, but I used to have a school of clown loaches who would generally get tangled when I caught them. Rather than injure them by shaking the net trying to free them. I'd just leave the net in the water and let them free themselves. They never took more than a few minutes to get loose. The holey container idea sounds good too.
