Thinking... for my 55g.

20g sump/ Mag 350 return/ Eshopps pf300..

Height is about 4ft.. Mag should give approx 270gph, however I want to but an inline ball valve to slow it down. I have 3 already installed UGJ that will be the return.

Want jets to push approx 80 gph each.

Sound right?

Go for it, there are a lot of advantages going with a sump. Easy maintenance, I hate taking a canister apart. No big boxes sitting on the back lip keeping the tank 4" off the wall. You can install an auto top off in the sump also. I am lazy, so all I have to do is fill my top off tank and do my water changes every 2 weeks or so. Oh, change out filter floss while doing water change.

I haven't had good luck with restricting flow on submersible pumps, they don't like it/ not really built for back pressures. They also get loud with high head pressure or blocking against it.
