- pool filter sand
-aquarium sand
- crushed coral sand

also how many pounds would I need for a 125 gallon Cichlid tank?

Pool filter sand. Aquarium sand could be anything and would tend to be more (a lot) expensive initially and harder to maintain eventually. Crushed coral is very rough and difficult to clean.

PFS is clean, inexpensive, looks natural and the consistent 20 grain size makes it easy to clean using a siphon.

One more thing on how much...remember you will have rocks on the bottom before you add substrate. With mbuna there will be 80% rocks and 20% substrate so you will need less. Agree on one inch or less...in my case as little as 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch...just enough to cover the bottom.

PFS comes in 50 pound bags and that will be plenty IME.
