So I thought my ocellatus spawned. I noticed one of them had a really round stomach, and there was a bump coming out of the oviduct. Didn't see them spawn, but I noticed the fish in question guarding a shell with all it's might. Did a water change last night, and woke up to find the shell buried! Anyone else see this kind of behavior? Also after laying eggs, how long does it take to see fry?

It isn't the most uncommon thing for males to bury shells, even when the female is in it. I'd pull the shell out of the sand ASAP...

did that. I noticed the female was hiding somewhere else. So how can I prevent this in the future? The male in the tank is a real bull. almost 2 inches. Maybe I should pull him, and let everyone else fatten up a bit?
