I currently have a 55gal mbuna tank which has been up and running for about 4 months. I am about to set up a new All Male 90gal Peacock/Hap tank. I would like some advice on what particular fish would give me the most variety in color and be compatible. I find many fish that have great colors (reds,blues,yellows) but I am unsure of how different the fish must look to avoid trouble. Alot of the blue/yellow mixes and all red varieties look pretty similar to me so I am unsure. I am not worried about breeding issues just aggression. I also know most people recommend against mixing lakes but I would like to mix in a few victorians for added variety - would that work? Any guidance from more experienced keepers would be greatly appreciated.

A good general rule to go by is that if they look similar to you, they are also going to look similar to the fish. :thumb:

Do you plan on buying adult fish? (Lots easier than going through the process of weeding out females with juveniles...)

I am planning to go with adult fish or at least old enough to be sexable. So do you think I will have a problem if I mix the following in an All Male tank : Ruby Red,Baenschi,Maulana,Mylandia Blue Neon,Ngara Flametail, German Red, Blue Orchid, and a Otopharynx lithobates. Can I mix in a few Victorians such as an Obliquens or Sp.44,Flameback, Salmon Point, or Fire Red Uganda.

The german red and ruby red are the same fish. So only one of those. You might also consider some haps. You have a big enough tank. A Taiwan Reef is great. Also, a copadichromis mloto, with his white blaze, shouldn't look too similar to your blue orchid. You might also add something albino, which will also look different. A Red Empress is another idea. Oh, and maybe a Red Shoulder, too. Cannot speak to the Victorians. You could also add a trio of labs and a trio of p.acei. Plus some synodontis. have fun!!

Oh, the maylandi may look too much like the lithobates (both blue with yellow blaze).

I was planning to add some Acei and yellow labs along with an Iceberg fryeri to round things out. I do like the idea of an albino - thanks. I am still curious if I can mix in some Vics for added variety and lots of color on each fish.
