Hello, I have a 30 gallon tank that is 36" by 12". I really enjoy the look of african chiclids but I dont know what would be suitable for my tank. My local fish stores dont have a giant selection of africans so I was kind of thinking a few smaller mbunas may work (Yellow labs, red zebras, ice blue zebras, Blue johani, elongatus). If someone has any experience with this and could help me come up with a stocking plan THAT WOULD HELP ME SO MUCH!!!!!

You don't want any of those mbuna except yellow labs. You could do 1m:4f of those. The 36" tank is very limiting...for the others you would want a 48" tank that would be 55G for some and 75G for some of the more aggressive ones on your list like johannii, ice blue zebras and elongatus.

You buy 8 unsexed juveniles and then you rehome extra males when/if they mature and cause trouble. You would HAVE to do one species in a tank that size.
