Just a curious question.. if/when I come to the point where I have fry in my tank, I was thinking I should put a sponge filter over the intake of my 305 to keep them from getting sucked down into the canister. Would this hurt the flow of my 305?

Anything you put over the intake will slow it down. You just want to make sure it's a course sponge and clean it often so it doesn't slow it down too much.

Clean often as previous poster said, and you are good to go. I ran a 404 with a prefilter sponge for a long time, and when I started hearing strange noises from it, I had waited too long to change the sponge, but it did not seem to harm the filter.
