When I first got him, I had no idea what he was. He was pale and his dorsal fin was mostly white but had bright orange on the tips of the fin. I couldn't find any information that identified it. But now, the orange has disappeared and he's a brilliant metallic blue.

Here's two pictures of comparison. Lighting was the same for both pictures and depicts true color.





Any information would be appreciated.

Color change can be due to stress (new environment) or maturation. Fryeri don't start out blue; they're all pretty bland as juvies. Males color up nicely later.

Yes that would make since... He was slightly blue when I picked him out and I was disappointed when I brought him home. Is it too early to assume a male?
