Hi, I am fairly new to this.. I have a cichlid (he/she came with the 2nd hand tank I bought).. everything was fine until I broke the tank, then bought a new, bigger tank with a more powerful filtration system, and a light. I don't know if it was the stress of the new tank, or changing him off of goldfish food (the previous owner was feeding him goldfish food) or removing the divider between him and the female betta, but last week I noticed two red bumps under his belly, the next few days the bumps multiplied, now he has a big cluster of bumps, red and white covered in a white slime...
Is it a disease? is it ick? is it eggs? the pet store guy didn't know, I've been on every cichlid disease website.. I did 25% water change, I am treating with Melafix, I bought a heater, I stopped feeding him, I removed the betta, but I don't have a water quality test kit.

Any info is appreciated.
I want to attach a pic but not sure how..

I think we need to look at water quality first- Did you move any of the substrate or filter media into the new tank? Please get measurements for ammonia and nitrite as soon as you can.
