I have a 2" black calvus that i've had for over a year now.. got it when it was only an inch.. it's 2 inches now.. but i noticed his mouth is always open and he can't seem to shut his mouth.. and he isn't eating either.. and is just staying at the bottom.. i have a few other male calvus in there.. could it be that they might of been jaw fighting and his jaw got messed up? is it lock jaw? anyone help me out here would be great.. i don't want to lose this calvus, took so long to grow out... :S:S:S:S:S

Have you noticed any aggression? Sounds to me like lock-jaw. There was another post here describing it in detail, it usually goes away on its own, if it does go away. You can always separate the fish if you're worried about aggression and keep an eye on it, I don't think that there's anything you can do otherwise in the immediate future.

I had some little calvus for awhile and I had the same thing happen to mine. It was caused by doing water changes of all things, whenever I did a large water change on of my calvus would end up with his mouth way extended. It always went away after a day or two so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. I read lots of calvus get this phenomenon in response to stress (and they are very sensitive).
