I have a red spotted gold severum and recently eggs have appeared on driftwood in my tank that he is protecting fiercely. However, I only have one severum in this tank, and I believe it is a male. The other fish I have are an electric blue acara, green terror, blood red parrot, jack dempsey, convict, and turquoise jewel. The only females that are in there (if my sexing is correct), are the convict and the parrot. The eggs have turned white, which I believe means they were not fertilized? My main questions are these: 1. do severums mate with other types of cichlids and if so, is there a type that this usually happens with? and 2. why weren't the eggs fertilized if the severum is guarding them?

Another quick fact; the severum and the parrot do not get along at all, which makes me think it was the convict that he attempted to mate with. Or could this behavior mean there is some type of courting or something going on with those two?

Thanks for any input and feedback here!
