I'm seeding a grip of sponge filters in a sump. I didn't want to hook up airlines to all of them so I just threw them in there and squeezed out all the air, they were initially floating from all the air they were holding. Will they seed adequately? Obviously they would get more water flow if they were functioning which could result in more bacteria, but I really don't know.

They really need the air hooked up, or at least put them in a position where the water flowing into the sump is pouring directly on them.

On a sidebar - do you have to keep the air going on the filter? I have mine running during daytime hours turned off in the evening due to noise.

I actually went to hook up air to them but realized the lift tubes are taller than the sump :/
