My Cichlid tank has cycled with ammonia and nitrites zero. Nitrates are starting to creep up. I have been doing the water changes, cleanings etc.....Any opinions with the use of Sea-Chem's De-Nitrate media for a slot in one of my dual OTB Marineland 400's?? Dr Bob

In order for it to be effective you have to restrict the water flow to a certain range of flow.

If you haven't read up on using deNitrate you should do so.

It isn't a "magic bullet" ...

Thanx for the great advice! Do you have a resource outlining the restricted flow/limitations of the "denitrate media" and do you have any advice for controlling nitrates to certain parameters? Thanx

Why not just avoid overstocking and do water changes? No need for denitrate media.

The water will still have dissolved organics which only regular water changes will remedy.
