so I got to thinking.. I jsut did a sand substrate in my 40 and I was getting ready to put my fish back in and started thinking.... can my pleco live in sand, I had gravel before and he would lay on the gravel floor and suck up stuff, can he survive in sand or will he just learn to stay on the rocks, or will the sand not even make a difference to him?

I don't think it makes a difference. My pleco sucks on sand, the heater, glass, and rocks.
