Sand depth

I have mixed a blend of aragonite and black sand for a pair of ocellatus some small calvus.

How deep should the sand be? I want to make sure it's deep enough for the shellies but don't want nitrates building up in an unnecessarily deep bed.

Thanks

An inch looks good, 2 inches gets to be a bit much. The shellies will move the sand around like bulldozers, but they don't need sand to be happy. I used 40 lbs for a 55 gallon (4ft) tank, and it looks good and is easy to clean. Do a search in the tank set ups forum, and you'll get a better idea of what other people are doing.
