my friend wants to give me a big salt tank set up. with the overflow that drains out of the bottom, into a sump, and uv filter, then back up, and it pump out of the corner of the tank. the back left corner of the tank is boxed and water overflows into that boxed off section.

Can I eliminate this section, and get an outside power filter, and use it for a chiclid tank?
I don't need all that fancy filtration and sumps. but I love the oak stand and cover it comes with.

Anything is possible, but are you willing to trust your patching of any holes in the glass? I wouldn't consider sumps fancy. They are simple and quality filters. Most people with larger tanks prefer them to canisters. With the tank already drilled and the sump in your hands, I would use it.

I dont know anything about sumps my self , but if the tank came with it I would use it. from what *** researched sumps are pretty simple, once you know how they work.
