I have a sponge filter in my 10gal growout that is powered by a whisper 60 air pump. Both outputs are Y'ed into one and it used to really blow!...over about 6 weeks it has reduced to atleast half what it used to be. I have cleaned the airstone and the sponge, even just put the airline in by itself and it is not moving air like it should.

They are not designed to be connected together with a Y. You probably created too much pressure on the diaphram and damaged it. If you only want to run 1 airstone you need to get an airpump with only 1 output..

You could look at the bottom of the airpump. Most of them have small pieces of cloth used as filters.. They clog easily..

Yeah I would have to agree.
In my early days of the hobby, i also did the same thing ,but my diaphragm blew off.
must have been back pressure :lol:
