New to cichlids, but done enough research to know that generally American and African need to stay separate. I was at the store and saw an awesome looking bright orange fish in with the black convicts and jack dempseys. It was a red zebra.

I've got a Jack Dempsey, green terror and black convict. Can a red zebra be added? Just because they were mixed at the store, I figured I better check with someone besides PetCo.

Tank size and dimensions?

Long term may not work as fish mature and the territories are established.

It is possible, hit or miss. Not ideal for the Red Zebra, but sometimes they can live together. Since they are not closely related they kinda ignore each other, other than territories. Mbuna can be dominant, but in the end will be smaller probably.

Since you are new to cichlids, are you sure it wasn't a Red Devil type? They are central American and can be bright orange.
