I have a 55 gallon tank. Stock list as follows: (4-??) Yellow Labs, (2-female) Red Zebra, (1-female) Bumblebee, (1) Pearl Gourami, (1) Cory Cat, (1) Pleco (some of these left over from tropical setup).

I had a male red zebra from another tank that was getting too aggressive so I wanted to try him in the 55 gallon tank with the bigger fish. After about a month he started getting aggressive again :x . I noticed one of my red zebras is missing its tail  ! It is kind of white around the area where the tail used to be. I did not notice any fuzziness or growths there. Was the tail just eaten and it will grow back on its own or do I need to treat the zebra :-? ? The fish is eating and moving around pretty good considering the missing tail fin.

I finally had to break down and take the male zebra back to my LFS. They let me trade it in on another fish. I picked up a small albino zebra, the only fish they had that I thought would work in my tank. I’m hoping it is a female and will play nice with its tank mates.

One more unrelated question: I would like to add some ‘blue’ to the tank. Could I add 2-3 Pseudotropheus Acei to the tank or should I stick to my current stocking list? I will wait until I get the red zebra fixed up first, of course.

I moved the wounded red zebra to a 5 gallon hospital tank. I started treating the tank with Maroxy (Mardel). Should I also be adding Maracyn-TC or some other antibiotic? Do I need to perform any water changes on the hospital tank? How long should I keep the infected fish isolated?

I could really use some advice. I have been fish keeping for over 15 years, cichlids over 1 year. I only had a few ‘disease’ outbreaks over the years. So far, every time I try to treat them they all die. Luckily this has only happened a few times in over 15 years.
