I was at my LFS at lunch today, and they had some new fish in, labeled red top mbamba on the tank. The males looked beautiful with a dark blue color, black vertical stripes, and a orange - reddish color on their dorsal and tail. The females looked brownish. The employee did not know much about them.

I wanted to learn more about this fish so I looked at the profiles and all I found was a cynotilapia sp mbamba and a labridochromis mbamba.

Does anyone have any insight what a "red top mbamba" may be?

I would guess it is a Lab. mbamba as well. The odds of a Cynotilapia sp. mbamba being at a LFS aren't that good - and none of them have a red top to them (could be a mislabel, and some yellow-top fish are called "red top").
