I have a 5" Red Top I brought home 3 days ago from a private fish keeper that was breaking down a tank of adult Haps. I put him in my all male peacock/hap tank for two nights. Sometime during night two he got pretty thrashed not sure who the culprit was I have 18 fish in a 5' 120g. All his fins were hammered and was wounds along his sides so I put him in a 50g that I keep set up without much in it. Its eighty degrees and has the appropriate amount of salt in it and a LFS recommended I start with Seachem Sulfaplex for meds. So I did that yesterday on new years eve. I came home from work this evening and he looks more ragged and has a dozen white fuzzy spots every where his scales where injured. Any suggestions. Thanks for the help.

Why is there salt in the tank? The med you chose seems to cover all the diseases I know of that has fuzzy growths, but it may be hard to recover from a beating that damaged all his fins and created wounds along his sides.

Are the fuzzy patches bunches of tiny spots or larger patches on each side?

Salt as a first step treatment for his fins and preventative for ick. I checked him with a flashlight this morning before work and I think the white fuzzy patches were gone his fins are terrible. We'll see this evening.

Last night it looked like his fins had started to round off and lose the ragged edges most of the white stuff was gone. This morning with a flashlight his fins look much improved continuing to round off, edges looking solid and healing. I think he may pull through. Tonight i'll do a small water change and retreat on the 72 hour mark with the Sulfaplex. Not sure if it is helping but so far it hasn't hurt.
