There are different races of the same species, Protomelas taeniolatus. There are some sold as "Fire Blue", which are more orange than red.

Similis is one of the many fake scientific names they have been sold under.

thank you thats what I was wondering. It looked like just a red empress to me but the name was making me have second thoughts.

A fish that has been sold as Hap. "Ndiwe" for decades. Really, just the same as a Red Empress except more orange than red, and the blue has a different tint. What is confusing is that these fish (Red Empress and Ndiwe or Fire Blue) have been sold under many different names over the years. Well bred, both races can have spectacular males.
