I will soon have my 25g tank converted to a planted tank to house a pair of rams. Would like to know what would be a good tankmate. Was thinking about cardinal tetras or some type of dwarf gourami. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would stick with a small tetra like a neon/black neon or cardinal, dwarf gouramis can be aggressive little things. More active tetras like Rummy nose can be a detriment to the comfort of the rams IMHO, too active above them.

I like your stocking plans. Sounds like a very colorful tank. My only concern would be aggression from the gouramis. Most of them are very territorial, but it could work if you have plenty of plants.

Which rams are we talking about, Blue rams or Bolivian rams.

Blue rams:
Depends what you want from the tank. If you're not interested in fry surviving, I would look at tetras that can handle the higher temperature that Blue rams require. Rummynose tetras and GREEN neon tetras are the two most commonly available.
If you want fry to survive, it's either no dither fish, or may try pencilfish.

Bolivian rams:
Wouldn't keep just a pair. Better kept as part of a larger school in a larger tank.
